The Aveiro Port Authority promoted a workshop focused on the Blue Economy and the European Ecological Pact (Green Deal), in which the responsible for the area of Maritime Innovation, Marine Knowledge and Investment in the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG Mare) of the European Commission, Andreea Strachinescu, attended.
The meeting took place on board the hotel-ship Costa do Sal, including a boat visit to the Port of Aveiro and to the surrounding lagoon area - Ria de Aveiro, one of the biggest wetland areas in Europe, which was attended by the main actors of the port community, regional public entities and research units of the University of Aveiro.
The various initiatives carried out and under development in the region were presented, highlighting the blue economy area, the energy and digital transition of the Aveiro Port and the national and international projects of CIRA - Intermunicipal Community of Aveiro Region, involving the Ria de Aveiro and the interaction with the anthropogenic activities. CESAM, Centre for Environment and Sea Studies of the University of Aveiro, listed numerous research and development projects in the areas of ecosystems recovery, biodiversity, climate change, carbon sequestration, among others. The meeting culminated with the disclosure of the work that the European Commission has been developing under Horizon Europe for the recovery of the oceans (Mission Ocean), including investment and funding opportunities at European level, which aim to promote the development of projects that meet the needs of local communities and create impact in the region.
