The Port of Aveiro closed 2022 with its best year ever, reaching the mark of 5.772 million tonnes handled, representing an increase of 1.4% compared to the same period last year.
Although the figures are still provisional, the growth in the movement of forest products (+67%) and non-metallic minerals (+41%) made a strong contribution to this record.
In November 2022 the first call of a regular container service from Ellerman City Liners took place, calling at the Port of Aveiro fortnightly, having registered until the end of 2022 the movement of 1.113 TEU.
The night navigation, whose practice was initiated in 2022 and is carried out until 01h00, registered a total of 78 movements.
Although the number of ships that called at the Port of Aveiro in 2022 suffered a slight drop of 0.2% (1053 against 1055 in the previous year), there was an increase of 4.9% in GT and of 1.2% in the average length of the ships.
It should be recalled that the best year ever recorded for the Port of Aveiro was in 2021 with a mark of 5.691 Million tonnes handled.
It should also be noted that the Ports of Aveiro and Figueira da Foz handled in the total of the year 7.964 Million tonnes, historic values for the set of these two ports, surpassing the previous joint historic maximum of 7, 642 Million tonnes, achieved in 2018.
