The Port of Aveiro received, on February 24, the vessel Rotra Vente, Siemens' first ship specifically designed for the transportation of wind turbines.
At CSWind's service, the Rotra Vente docked at the private quay of one of the largest producers of wind towers and offshore foundations. It loaded 2 wind towers, each divided in three segments and with dimensions ranging from 29m to 36m, destined to Rotterdam.
This 141 metre long vessel was built from the hull of a container ship and has a bow door that allows the turbines to enter in a Ro-Ro manner or alternatively through the opening of the upper deck. Given the optimised cargo stowage form, the ship has the capacity to transport up to nine towers or three to four sets of blades, with expected savings of 15% to 20% in logistical costs compared to transport using other types of ship.
