The fourth regular meeting of the C2IMPRESS project partners began yesterday in Aveiro, an initiative with the strategic participation of the Port of Aveiro and the Port of Figueira da Foz. The event, organised in collaboration with the National Civil Engineering Laboratory (LNEC), brings together experts and stakeholders to discuss the progress of the project.
The opening session was attended by Eduardo Feio, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ports of Aveiro and Figueira da Foz, who emphasised the importance of cooperation between ports and the community and highlighted the positive impact of the project in developing innovative solutions to increase resilience to climate change.
Over two days, the partners will have the opportunity to discuss the progress made in the first two years of the project, organise the work to be carried out in the final year and visit the port of Figueira da Foz and Montemor-o-Velho, which are part of the Portuguese demonstration project.
The consortium project involves a total of 16 partners and 4 study areas in European countries, coordinated in Portugal by LNEC. One of its main objectives is to improve the understanding and awareness of the different risks for a society resilient to disasters and climate change.
In Portugal, the pilot region is the Centro region, and the impact of natural disasters and their risks will be analysed, such as river and coastal flooding risks, the impact of forest fires on river flows and groundwater quality. In the specific case of ports, a forecasting and warning system will be developed to assess the risk of overtopping of port and coastal structures, as well as the risk to navigation and port operations, enabling the competent authorities to implement mitigation measures in good time.
This project is funded by the Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Framework Programme (HORIZON) under Grant Agreement No. 101074004.
