The Port of Aveiro has set a record for the handling of wind components, both onshore and offshore, in the third quarter of this year. This important milestone demonstrates the port's growing importance in the logistics chain associated with the renewable energy sector, particularly in the transport of high value-added components.
In the period under review, a total of 41 vessels called at the Port of Aveiro to load this type of cargo, an increase of 32 vessels compared to the same period last year. During the quarter, 241 wind blades and 225 towers were loaded onto 36 vessels, contributing to this historic achievement.
The private quay of CSWind, a company specialising in the production of offshore wind towers, also played a key role in this quarter's success. During this period, six vessels called at the CSWind quay, in contrast to the same period last year when no vessels called at all.
The cargo handled was mainly destined for European markets, especially Northern Europe, but also the United States and China, confirming the importance of the Port of Aveiro in this sector.
This result highlights the strategic position of the Port of Aveiro in the market for the handling of wind energy components, consolidating its importance in the renewable energy cluster in its hinterland, as well as its position in the global energy transition.
