On 12 November, the Port of Aveiro Administration (APA), the Municipality of Ílhavo, the companies of the Liquid Bulk Terminal (TGL) and the Humanitarian Association of the Ílhavo Volunteer Fire Brigade signed a protocol of cooperation at the APA headquarters, with the aim of improving safety and the ability to respond to major emergencies at the TGL. This protocol aims to provide the region with a specialised vehicle for fighting fires in industrial areas and areas with a high chemical risk, thus contributing to the protection of infrastructure, the environment and the population.

The protocol aims to provide the TGL with adequate means to respond in a timely manner to emergency scenarios that may occur in companies located in the area, as defined in their internal emergency plans.
The purpose of this protocol is to grant financial support to the Ílhavo Voluntary Fire Brigade Humanitarian Association for the purchase and maintenance of a fire-fighting vehicle for a period of 10 years, up to a maximum of 550,000 euros, distributed as follows: APA, S.A., up to 100,000 euros; Ílhavo City Council, up to 100,000 euros; and companies located at the Liquid Bulk Terminal, up to 350,000 euros, distributed according to the approval of the occupation area.

The vehicle will be equipped with a water storage capacity of 15,000 litres, 1,000 litres of hydrocarbon foam, a high-projection fire monitor, as well as advanced systems for thermal analysis, explosive atmosphere monitoring, communication in ATEX zones, spill containment and chemical and respiratory protection. There is currently no vehicle in Portugal that meets these specifications.

The organisations involved in signing the protocol are:
- APA - Administração do Porto de Aveiro, represented by the Chairman of the Board, Eduardo Elísio Peralta Feio;
- Municipality of Ílhavo, represented by the Mayor, João António Filipe Campolargo;
- Companies located at the TGL, classified under the Seveso Directive: PRIO Supply, S.A., PRIO Bio, S.A., Dow Portugal Produtos Químicos Lda, RNM Produtos Químicos, S.A., DIGAL - Distribuição e Comércio, S.A., Drovigo Portugal Unipessoal Lda, GLIA - Terminal de Granéis Líquidos, S.A., Companhia Industrial de Resinas Sintéticas CIRES, Lda, Bresfor - Indústria do Formol, S.A. and Bondalti Chemicals, S.A., represented by their directors;

The Port of Aveiro Administration, the Municipality of Ílhavo and the entities installed in the TGL reaffirm their commitment to the security and sustainable development of the region, strengthening cooperation in the protection of critical infrastructures and the environment.
