On 21st November the Aveiro Port Authority (APA, S.A.) and Ovar Town Council signed a contract for the transfer of goods and equipment for the sustainable management and operation of the Carregal Recreational Harbour.
The agreement is the result of the need to guarantee adequate conditions for the use of the marina's maritime and land infrastructures, which are currently located outside the jurisdiction of APA, S.A. Since APA does not have specific resources for the maintenance of these structures, the Town Council of Ovar, due to its proximity and in-depth knowledge of local needs, is assuming responsibility for the effective management and conservation of these infrastructures. These facilities will later be transferred to NADO - Náutica Desportiva Ovarense, a sports club that has been using them for several years.
The agreement signed today reflects the commitment of both organisations to reduce the risk of deterioration of the existing infrastructures and to promote safe and functional conditions for navigation and recreation. The assets and equipment transferred by APA, S.A. include floating walkways, quays, pontoons, breakwaters and a slipway, as well as the land and associated infrastructure that make up the Carregal marina.
APA, S.A. will permanently transfer some of the movable assets, which will become part of the municipal assets of Ovar. Other assets and infrastructures, including land, will be transferred for an initial period of 10 years, automatically renewable for periods of 5 years.
The Municipality of Ovar undertakes to ensure the maintenance, operation and management of the infrastructure, to guarantee appropriate conditions for use by the community and to prevent negative impacts on the surrounding area.
The contract was signed at the Carregal Marina by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Port of Aveiro, Eduardo Feio, the Mayor of Ovar, Domingos Silva, in the presence of the Member of the Board of Directors, Carlos Monteiro, the Deputy Mayor of Ovar, Alexandre Rosas, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of NADO, Carlos Andrade.
The signing of this agreement strengthens the partnership between the Aveiro Port Authority and the Municipality of Ovar, highlighting the importance of decentralised management close to local communities, which is essential for the sustainable development of the region and the preservation of its maritime heritage.
