The Port of Aveiro yesterday took an important step towards strengthening its modernisation and sustainability with the signing of the Consignment Order for the implementation of Digital Gateways. The project will be carried out by a consortium made up of CIMAVE - Construtora e Imobiliária de Aveiro, Lda. and SINALCABO - Sistemas de Comunicação, S.A., with a total investment of 4.5 million euros.
This initiative is part of the Port of Aveiro's strategic digitalisation plan, which focuses on modernising the land access control processes at its main terminals: the North Terminal, the Liquid Bulk Terminal and the Solid Bulk Terminal.
The project involves the installation of state-of-the-art technologies that will enable the fast and efficient identification, validation and registration of people, vehicles and goods at the entrances and exits of the terminals. The solution will include the development of customised software compatible with systems such as the Single Port Card (CUP) and the Single Logistics Window (JUL). This software will automate access control and credential validation, as well as facilitate the management and scheduling of road flows.
The implementation of the Digital Gateways will not only reduce bureaucracy and simplify procedures that are currently manual, but will also contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by optimising road logistics flows and integrating the maritime component with the road component of the supply chain.
With an execution period of 365 days, this contract is part of the project funded by Portugal 2030, under the Thematic Programme for Climate Action and Sustainability (SUSTAINABLE2030), with an investment of €4.7 million, of which €4 million comes from the Cohesion Fund.
This modernisation will significantly improve the efficiency of the port infrastructure, have a positive impact on the Atlantic Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and strengthen the environmental sustainability of port operations.
According to Eduardo Feio, President of the Board of Directors of the Port of Aveiro, "this project is a fundamental step towards digitising port activity, improving working conditions at the gates, strengthening terminal security and helping to reduce the time it takes to enter and leave the port, thus contributing to better economic performance for all companies in the logistics chain that use the Port of Aveiro. Its main objective is also to contribute to the decarbonisation of port activities and to strengthen intermodality, aligning the Port of Aveiro with national and European objectives".
The launch of this project reinforces the Port of Aveiro's commitment to innovation, sustainability and efficiency, and consolidates its role as a driver of development in the region.
