The Board of Directors of the Port of Aveiro has decided to launch an international public tender for the replacement of the fenders and mooring bollards in the northern commercial sector. This project represents a basic investment of €4,000,000.00 (four million euros), with an estimated execution time of 480 days.
The terminals in the Port of Aveiro were originally designed for vessels with a displacement of up to 27,000 tonnes, taking into account the specifications of quay accessories, namely fenders and mooring bollards. However, with the increasing trend towards larger vessels, the displacement tonnage has exceeded the limits set in the original project.
Today, the terminals are already receiving larger ships, which has led to accelerated wear and tear on the equipment installed. In order to guarantee the operability and safety of port operations, it is essential to replace the fenders and bollards.
The new equipment will be sized to allow ships of up to 50,000 tonnes to berth, in line with the aim of receiving larger vessels.
This investment reflects the Port of Aveiro's commitment to modernising its infrastructure and responding to the growing demands of international maritime traffic, while ensuring the competitiveness and safety of its operations.
