The tender is for the ‘Construction Contract for the 60/15KV 2x20MVA Substation at the Port of Aveiro’ and has an estimated value of €8,103,000 and an execution time of 480 days.
This tender is the second concrete step in strengthening the port's electrical infrastructure, building on the contract launched in March this year for the construction of the 60 kV SE Gafanha – SE APA mixed line. The first project involves constructing a high-voltage line, partly underground and partly overhead, to connect the Gafanha da Nazaré substation to the future substation, which is now out to tender.
These initiatives form part of a wider plan to significantly increase the Port of Aveiro's capacity to supply and receive electricity, overcoming the limitations of the existing infrastructure that currently hinder the expansion and modernisation of port activities. The main objectives include implementing solutions such as On Shore Power Supply (OPS), which involves supplying electricity to ships while they are in the harbour. This will enable a reduction in the use of fossil energy sources and, consequently, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The construction of the electrical substation forms part of APA, S.A.'s strategic objective of 'Decarbonisation and Sustainability'. This initiative is part of the port authority's energy transition strategy, approved in February 2021, which aims to decarbonise port operations and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
This investment demonstrates the Port of Aveiro's commitment to environmental sustainability, technological innovation, and the competitiveness of the national port system, and will contribute to a greener and more resilient economy.
