The Port of Aveiro will take part this Saturday, September 20, in a coastal cleanup action to be held at Cais do Sal (next to the ship’s wheel sculpture), starting at 10:00 a.m.
The initiative coincides with the International Coastal Cleanup Day, promoted by the Oceano Azul Foundation, and aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting and preserving lagoon and coastal ecosystems, key elements of the region’s identity and sustainability.
This cleanup activity is part of the Regata Solidária (Solidarity Regatta) programme, which this year strengthens its environmental focus by achieving the “Sustainable Regatta” certification, awarded by the association Sailors for the Sea.
Organized by the Rotary Club of Aveiro, in partnership with Sporting Clube de Aveiro, Clube dos Galitos, and Associação Aveirense de Vela de Cruzeiro (AVELA), the Regata Solidária takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., featuring rowing, canoeing, and sailing competitions (including youth and adapted classes), as well as a sailing cruise.
The initiative is supported by more than 40 local entities, including the Port of Aveiro, and combines sports, solidarity, and sustainability, with funds raised going towards projects that support children and young people in vulnerable situations.
