The Administration of the Port of Aveiro (APA) and the company ABB – Alexandre Barbosa Borges, S.A. signed, on November 24, the contract launching the construction of the new Intermodal Terminal, located in the Logistics and Industrial Activities Zone (ZALI), next to the railway track bundle. The project represents an investment of €15.9 million and has an execution period of 480 days.

This is a strategic investment for the Port of Aveiro, which will increase the efficiency of its railway service offering and, consequently, expand its hinterland to the region of Castile and León and to Madrid. The investment is therefore expected to contribute to the economic growth of Portugal’s Central Region and of the country as a whole, while also promoting a more environmentally sustainable transport system.

With a total area of 10 hectares, the future terminal will include two railway lines prepared to operate trains up to 750 metres long, cargo parking areas, a building for administrative and operational services, washing and inspection areas for containers, as well as parking for light and heavy vehicles.

The construction of this dual-use Intermodal Terminal is co-financed by European funds through the CEF II – Connecting Europe Facility programme, under the Transport – Military Mobility funding line, with a 47.3% co-financing rate of the total investment amount.
