The Port of Aveiro has launched the eBook “Workers of the Port of Aveiro 1923–2025”, a unique publication that brings together, for the first time, the names of workers, presidents, directors, harbour masters and other governing bodies who have shaped the history of the institution over more than a century.

The digital work, which traces the evolution of the infrastructure from the time when it was still the Autonomous Board of the Ria and Bar of Aveiro (JARBA) to the present day, constitutes an important historical and identity record of the Port of Aveiro.

In addition to the names of those who were and are part of the institution, the eBook also includes historical photographs and thus presents itself as an archive of collective memory, recovering and valuing the contribution of several generations of professionals, from manual workers and specialised technicians to management and executive teams.

Book gives rise to exhibition

As part of this launch, an outdoor exhibition was inaugurated this Friday next to the building of the former Forte da Barra. The exhibition showcases part of this human and historical heritage and can also be visited at night, thanks to the lighting installed at the site.

Anticipating a possible printed edition, the Port of Aveiro informs that until 31 January 2026 it will be accepting names that may have been omitted from this first edition of the eBook. Information may be sent to the email address comunicacao@portodeaveiro.pt, and only names of people who belonged to the permanent staff of the institution during the period covered will be considered. These contributions will make it possible to update and complete the historical record, ensuring the greatest possible accuracy regarding the port’s human legacy.

The eBook “Workers of the Port of Aveiro 1923–2025” is available in digital format, facilitating access for the entire community and reinforcing the Port of Aveiro’s commitment to preserving its history.
