On 18 February, the Aveiro Port Authority met with the Mayor of Guarda, Sérgio Costa, in Aveiro. The meeting included a presentation and a visit to the Aveiro Port facilities.
Among the topics discussed at the meeting was the Guarda Dry Port, a structural project located at the city's railway terminal. The infrastructure, the first phase of which is currently under construction, represents an investment of around four million euros and is the responsibility of APDL – Port Authority of the Douro, Leixões and Viana do Castelo.
The work involves the extension of existing railway tracks, the construction of a park for the storage and handling of goods, two buildings to support operations and a whole range of associated infrastructure, such as access controls and video surveillance. The completion of the work will thus allow the first trains to run to the ports of Leixões, Aveiro or other markets, strengthening the region's rail link to the main national ports.
