The Port of Aveiro is the first port in the Iberian Peninsula to obtain certification under norm ISO 20858 - Assessment and Security Plan for Port Facilities, and the second, at a national level, to obtain certification under norm ISO 28000 - Security Management System for the Supply Chain.

The achievement of these certifications in ISO norms reinforces the commitment that the Port of Aveiro has in the continuous improvement of the safety and quality of its operations, aiming at the satisfaction of its clients and following the tendencies of the market in permanent change.

ISO 28000 is supported by various normative references (ISO 28001-Best Practices for the Supply Chain and ISO 20858-Evaluation and Security Plan for Port Facilities) and allows for the integrated management of risk throughout the supply chain due to its level of integration with other norms, namely ISO 27001 Information Security Management System. Currently, the Port of Aveiro is waiting for the issuing of the certificate of the norm ISO 27001 - Information Security Management System - which has as its main focus the platform of the Logistics Single Window - JUL.

The experience that the Port of Aveiro had with the process of implementing the aforementioned certifications will be shared today, in the closing session of the GISAMP Project - Integrated Management of the Security of the Maritime-Port Supply Chain. It is recalled that this project aimed, on the one hand, to certify national ports, allowing them to obtain international recognition in matters of Maritime Safety, and on the other, to promote cooperation between ports, aiming to share best practices.

It should also be noted that the implementation, by the Port of Aveiro, of the integrated management system supported by the three ISO standards will contribute to minimize the vulnerabilities of the maritime-port domain, reducing the risk underlying the main threats that are imposed on the port community, strengthening the security of logistics chains, and improving the levels of safety and security in operations.
