The Port of Aveiro has launched a public tender for the private use concession of three plots of land in the Logistics and Industrial Activities Zone (ZALI) of the Port of Aveiro, with a total surface area of 192,090 m2, for industrial units in the floating offshore wind sector.

This tender follows the publication of the available plots and the interest of more than one company in each of the plots.

The public tender took into account, among other things, the results of the interministerial working group for the planning and operation of energy production centres based on renewable energy sources from the sea or in the sea, set up by order no. 11404/2022, of 23 September, of the Offices of the Secretaries of State for the Sea, Energy and Infrastructure. In particular, the conclusions of Subgroup 3, chaired by the Association of Portuguese Ports, which assessed the development needs of port infrastructures both for the construction phase of the power plants and for the development of a national industry based on offshore renewable energy sources. Also taken into account were the conclusions of the study on the offshore wind energy value chain carried out by INEGI - Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering - at the request of the Portuguese Association of Renewable Energy (APREN), which was presented at the association's annual conference on 30 November.

Within the floating offshore wind sector, these plots have been allocated to industrial units producing components of exceptional size and weight that must be manufactured and transported by sea, as it doesn't seem rational, given the scarcity of land in the ZALI or in the Port of Aveiro, to allocate port plots for the construction of industrial units producing components that can be transported by road.

On the other hand, in order to guarantee the best and most diversified response to the sector's market, while minimising the risks associated with occupying a large area with a single business, it was also ensured that at least two different components would be produced on the three plots (A, B and C). Taking into account this requirement and the components already manufactured in the Port of Aveiro, the production of towers will not be allowed on the plots.
