On 19th December 2024, APA - Administração do Porto de Aveiro, S.A. and the Municipality of Ílhavo signed a protocol formalising the concession of a plot of public water area, with a total area of 36,498 square metres, located on the northern shore of Praia da Barra. This agreement is aimed at the construction and maintenance of the future Engenheiro Luís Gomes de Carvalho Garden, a landscaping project that will enhance the attractiveness and sustainable development of the area.
The protocol was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of APA, S.A., Eduardo Feio, and the Mayor of Ílhavo, João Campolargo, to demonstrate the joint commitment of the organisations to the enhancement of the area and the well-being of the local communities.
The Engenheiro Luís Gomes de Carvalho Garden will be a public space of reference, designed to provide better conditions for the enjoyment of citizens and to promote private investment opportunities. This project honours the memory of the engineer Luís Gomes de Carvalho, whose contribution to the development of the Port of Aveiro and the region remains invaluable.
According to the terms of the contract, the concession will have an initial term of 20 years, which may be extended for a further 10 years by agreement between the parties. During this period, the Municipality of Ílhavo undertakes to present, within one year, a detailed plan for the development of the land, guaranteeing compliance with the applicable legal and environmental standards.
The agreement reflects the history of institutional cooperation between APA, S.A. and the Municipality of Ílhavo, and reaffirms the common objective of redeveloping public spaces and improving the area for the benefit of the population and the local economy.
