This is the fourth consecutive year that the ports have participated in Breakbulk Europe, the world's largest trade fair for general breakbulk and project cargo. The fair will take place from 13 to 15 May in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The two ports are participating as part of the joint stand of the Ports of Portugal, coordinated by APP – Associação dos Portos de Portugal. This stand also includes the ports of Viana do Castelo, Leixões, Lisbon, Setúbal and Sines.
This presence reflects the Portuguese port sector's international promotional efforts, showcasing a collaborative and synergistic strategy among the key stakeholders in the Portuguese maritime and port logistics chain.
Various business partners from the sector were also present in the national delegation, including ETE Group, Iberolinhas, Portline Ocean Management, Nogarport, Yilport Iberia S.A., Zaldesa – Zona de Actividades Logísticas de Salamanca, Foztráfego, Operfoz, Portugs and Santos e Vale. This highlights the collaborative spirit and integrated response capacity of the Portuguese port ecosystem.
The 'Ports of Portugal Networking' event, which was organised in collaboration with AICEP Portugal Global (the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade), took place yesterday morning. This initiative provided a unique opportunity to establish strategic connections, explore new commercial partnerships, and promote the potential of the ports of Aveiro and Figueira da Foz.
Notably, in 2024, the general break-bulk cargo segment accounted for 36 per cent of the Port of Aveiro's total cargo movement and 47 per cent of the Port of Figueira da Foz's total cargo movement.
Participation in Breakbulk Europe 2025 further demonstrates the Ports of Aveiro and Figueira da Foz's commitment to internationalisation and consolidating strategic links with international markets.
