The Port of Aveiro has started maintenance dredging in three key harbour areas: Canelete, the Coastal Fishing Port and the High Sea Fishing Port. This project represents an investment of €2,125,000 and aims to improve safety, navigability and operational conditions for all vessels operating in these areas.

Dredging works in the Canelete and High Sea Fishing Port

Dredging work in Canelete began last week. This area is mainly used by official authority vessels. For safety reasons, navigation in the area has been banned since 19 May and will continue until 30 June, as determined by the Maritime Authority.

Dredging work at the High Sea Fishing Port is due to start at the beginning of June. The aim is to re-establish the bottom levels near the quay bridges, which are currently silted up. This is jeopardising navigability in certain tidal conditions. MMAS Dragagens S.A. is responsible for the work, which represents an investment of around 425,000 euros.

Dredging works in the Coastal Fishing Port

Maintenance dredging work also began in the port last week, covering the Small Fishing Port and the Jardim Oudinot Recreational Dock. This work forms part of the ‘Maintenance Dredging of the Coastal Fishing Port and Darsena Entrance to the Port of Aveiro’ contract.

During the work in the Small Fishing Harbour, the boats moored to the pontoons will need to be temporarily relocated. The Port Authority and the contractor, Rohde Nielsen A/S, are coordinating this process in direct liaison with the boat owners, APARA and Clube Náutico Boca da Barra.

Commitment to Modernisation and Sustainability

These interventions reflect the Port of Aveiro's ongoing commitment to modernising its infrastructure to ensure greater safety, efficiency and sustainability in port operations and reinforce its role as a driving force for regional development.
