The Port of Aveiro closed 2025 with its best year ever, reaching more than 5.858 million tonnes of cargo handled, representing a growth of almost 5% compared to 2024 and thus consolidating a new all-time high in its port activity.
This result was mainly driven by import performance, which reached 4.65 million tonnes, an increase of almost 10% compared to the previous year. Exports totalled 1.21 million tonnes.
Among the different types of cargo handled, solid bulk stood out as the main contributor to overall volume, reaching 2.43 million tonnes, representing growth compared to the same period last year. Within this segment, metallurgical products, agri-food products and cement stood out. Liquid bulk cargo also recorded positive growth, totalling 1.68 million tonnes. General breakbulk cargo also increased, reaching 1.75 million tonnes, corresponding to a positive variation of 5.31%.
There was also an improvement in operational efficiency, with the average cargo handled per vessel rising to 6,023 tonnes.
It should be recalled that the previous best-ever result was recorded in 2022, with 5.776 million tonnes handled, confirming a consistent growth trajectory in the Port of Aveiro’s activity.
