Paving work began yesterday, 10 March, on Avenida Marginal at the Largo Fishing Port, as part of the project to upgrade this port infrastructure. The works form part of a wider project aimed at enhancing this port area, increasing the infrastructure’s resilience to climate change. As part of this project, a retaining wall has already been built along the water’s edge, a solution that has helped to mitigate the flooding that used to occur during spring tides.
With an investment of approximately €4.5 million, the project is expected to be completed by mid-July this year. Key works include the construction of a reinforced concrete wall along the quay, the resurfacing of the pavement, the creation of a shared cycle path, the reinforcement of the quay, improvements to street lighting, and the installation of a firefighting network.
At this stage, the area undergoing works will extend for around 1,300 metres. It should be noted that this area is already equipped with new mooring bollards, a car park and individual parking spaces along the road, also as part of the project.
The Marginal Avenue of the Largo Fishing Port plays a key role in port activities related to offshore fishing. The infrastructure serves 17 jetties used by companies involved in fishing, processing, freezing and distributing fish.
