Yesterday, 14 April, the Port of Aveiro signed a memorandum of understanding with the Port of Piauí with the aim of exploring and establishing new direct shipping routes between the Port of Aveiro and the Port of Piauí, thereby strengthening the logistical and commercial links between the two countries. The initiative was formalised during Intermodal South America, which is taking place in Brazil from 14 to 16 April, one of the leading international events in the logistics and transport sector.
The agreement aims to promote active cooperation between the two port authorities, focusing on the joint identification of potential customers and cargo opportunities in the Brazilian and Portuguese markets. This partnership also aims to assess the operational and commercial viability of new direct maritime links, capable of enhancing the competitiveness and efficiency of transatlantic logistics chains.
The memorandum also provides for the development of technical and strategic studies in areas such as port infrastructure, energy and operational efficiency, as well as the sharing of best practices and technologies between the two ports.
The Brazilian market offers strong potential for the development of these new links, given the context of the EU–Mercosur agreement, currently in the consolidation and ratification phase, which aims to strengthen and facilitate trade between the countries involved.
