The Port of Aveiro welcomed, this Monday, May 12, a delegation of Brazilian business representatives and port authorities as part of the Bahia–Portugal Business Port Mission. The initiative aimed to strengthen institutional and business relations between Bahia and Portugal, promoting business opportunities and the development of strategic partnerships.
The Brazilian delegation began the programme with a technical visit to the Port of Aveiro, where participants had the opportunity to learn about the various port terminals and gain first-hand insight into port operations and infrastructure. This was followed by a session of institutional presentations focused on knowledge sharing and the identification of cooperation opportunities between Portuguese and Brazilian entities. During the session, the capabilities of the Port of Aveiro and the Port of Leixões were presented, as well as the work carried out by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the District of Aveiro. Licensed port operators operating at the Port of Aveiro also had the opportunity to present their activities and operational capacity.
The initiative also included networking moments, fostering direct contact between companies and entities from both countries. The programme concluded with regional promotion activities, including a traditional moliceiro boat tour on the Aveiro lagoon and a closing dinner.
It is worth recalling that, in 2021, the Port of Aveiro signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Bahia State Dock Company (CODEBA) and has participated, since 2019, in Intermodal South America, considered the largest logistics trade fair in Latin America, held annually in São Paulo. Currently, around 10% of the cargo handled at the Port of Aveiro originates from Brazil.
In an international context marked by the strengthening of trade relations between Europe and South America, this cooperation takes on particular importance in light of the progress of the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur. The implementation of this agreement could create new opportunities for Portuguese ports, particularly for the Port of Aveiro, reinforcing its role as a strategic logistics platform connecting European and South American markets, while boosting maritime traffic, investment, and business activity linked to international trade.
The Bahia–Portugal Business Port Mission takes place between May 12 and 15 across several Portuguese ports and has the main objective of strengthening cooperation between the two territories through knowledge sharing, the promotion of new business opportunities, and the reinforcement of strategic links in the port and logistics sector between the Portuguese and Brazilian markets.
