On Friday, 9 October, the Port of Aveiro resumed regular maritime container transport operations with the first call by Ellerman City Liners, in a service operated by PTM Ibérica, around two years after the service was discontinued.
Operating on a weekly basis, the new service connects Aveiro with Tilbury (United Kingdom) and Rotterdam (the Netherlands), further integrating the Port of Aveiro into short sea shipping networks and strengthening its connectivity with major European logistics hubs.
The resumption of this service expands the maritime transport options available to regional businesses, creating new opportunities for containerised cargo handling, logistics chain optimisation and enhanced export competitiveness.
The return of this connection fulfils a long-standing ambition of businesses across the Port of Aveiro’s hinterland, which have consistently advocated for the reinstatement of a regular container shipping service to meet the needs of the region’s industrial and business community.
More shipping connections, greater logistics connectivity and new opportunities for cargo and the regional economy.
