Between 14 and 16 April, the Port of Aveiro attended Intermodal South America in São Paulo. Its participation in Latin America’s largest logistics trade fair led to the signing of a new memorandum of understanding with the Port of Piauí and to meetings with key Brazilian port authorities.

As part of the delegation from the APP – Association of Portuguese Ports, the Port of Aveiro undertook a busy networking schedule to discuss logistics synergies between Portugal and Brazil, within the framework of the EU–Mercosur agreement, which aims to strengthen trade between the countries involved.

The visit to São Paulo also provided an opportunity to strengthen ties with strategic partners such as the Ports of Rio Grande do Sul, the Bahia Port Authority, and the ports of Santos, Rio de Janeiro and Açu. One of the highlights of the visit was the networking event, the main aim of which was to strengthen relations with the sector’s key economic players. This meeting, which took place at the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce, was organised by the Association of Portuguese Ports, in partnership with AICEP Global, and was attended by Ambassador António Rodrigues da Silva, Portuguese Consul in São Paulo, João Ribeiro da Costa, President of the Chamber of Commerce in São Paulo, and Francisco Saião Costa, Head of the AICEP Brazil – São Paulo delegation.

Another highlight was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Port of Piauí, an agreement aimed at strengthening commercial ties and promoting the sharing of best practices in innovation and port management. The participation in the fair also included a brief meeting with Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé França, who was invited to visit Portugal and the Port of Aveiro.

The presence at Intermodal reaffirms the Port of Aveiro’s internationalisation strategy, consolidating its position as a leading logistics partner in the Atlantic corridor. This positioning gains added significance with the EU-Mercosur agreement, which aims to simplify customs procedures and reduce technical barriers.

Following the bilateral meetings, on 12 May the Port of Aveiro will host a business mission, organised by the Bahia Port Authority, comprising business leaders and port authorities.
