The Port of Aveiro has approved its Strategy for Energy Transition, thus actively contributing to the urgent need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) in shipping, a commitment outlined by the European Green Deal in December 2019.
The approved Strategy identifies the lines of action, which covers the entire port community of Aveiro, as this is the only way that an effective greening transformation of the entire maritime transport chain will be possible.
This document details the action plan to be implemented in the identified areas, as an integrated roadmap, such as the production of renewable energy and the related electricity supply services, the provision of advanced biofuels, the promotion of energy efficiency in buildings, services and port activities, digitization, among others.
Seeking to start now the paradigm shift in the port sector, the Port of Aveiro led a consortium of 42 partners in a Green Ports call of the European Union. The consortium also includes the Port of Tyne (UK), the Port of Tulcea (Romania), and the Port of Sandnes (Norway), each port organized into clusters of local partners in their value and supply chains.
The cluster of the Port of Aveiro consists of 15 partners, such as EFACEC, PRIO, MARLO, University of Aveiro, EDP, Bondalti, Aveiro City Hall, INOVA+, ASM Industries, as well as end users, with highlight for the Associação das Empresas de Estiva do Porto de Aveiro (Association of Logistics Companies of the Port of Aveiro), TINITA (tugboats), Seacarrier and Portline (Shipowners). Furthermore, Port of Aveiro has the additional support of 34 local and national stakeholders.
